why would someone want to "point dump"?

Multiple reasons. It could be to enjoy stripping senior ranks of high points when ambushing their games, it could be the enjoyment of rising again etc etc.

Regarding the philosophy of point dumping, I cannot see how anyone could have a problem with it, it is perfectly allowable, and actually does a lot of good. It reverses the inherent flow of points momentarily. It gives people a good feeling should they rise in rank...if they are not actually that good, they will quickly lose them again to more deserving types, so those points will ultimately end up where they should be. It levels the playing field and adds to the frission of who one takes on...

I am staggered at poohs suggestion, it reeks of elitism, something I cannot abide (for all my tongue in cheek remarks to the contrary).

Your opinion is highly flawed here Fruit- if those were indeed the reasons, all is required is a pm to an admin for a point reset. There would be no abuse of the system nor abuse from the players that join to scrape off a few extra points. Although there may be 'enjoyment of rising again' but that's after the fact. It has no bearing on why they did it. If you take a look at all the players that Fble mentioned, they were all high ranks- guys that wanted to stay on top and due to the pressure cracked. Those that point dump, do because of their inability to maintain a desired rank.

Yet another example of how 1 vs 1s are grossly abused- if it were not for the game type, you'd rarely ever see this happening.

I PM'd the admins for a point reset and it wasn't granted... I just lost all mine in doodle assassins by playing stupidly... aka deploying at the beginning of the round and autoing my target's first territory... something that most players do... so as a result I ended up losing 7/8 of the games and plummeting. It's not too hard to win them actually, I was winning about 40%, KG said he managed to win 40-45% of them, and skillerman said he was managing 50%.

well spikeboat point dumped & then decided to play me & took me for 40 points, where if he was on par with his actual skill level a loss should have probably put me back 13-16 points so i'm a little sore about it.

As you should be, for the exact reason Poo mentioned. Although Fruit calls it being elitist, it's not the case. You have a Brig masquerading as a Cook. Players who don't know him and would think nothing of it outside of being a poor player (may be the case as a Brig too). It's wrong and unfair- has nothing to do with being an elitist. Clearly manipulating players and the point system.

Yes, I created a 1v1 Benelux Freestyle. He joined my game, I wasn't searching out low rank freestyle games that I could easily win.

it depends upon how its done... if you intentionally lose games, thats fairly unethical... if you join games that arent a great idea point wise, and try to win, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it...

when I lost my 1200 points or so, i tried to win every single game... but i played like 40 speed, freestyle doodle maps, in which Id have to say 25% were rigged, and another 25% ended by pure stupidity, and another 25% ended somewhat rationally, while maybe 5% were played strategically by every single player... I lost a lot. the rest I lost in speed 1v1s, but tried to win everyone... couple that with the slide I was in already, and I dropped a bunch of points. I then timed my rise perfectly as a ton of team games were finishing, and spent two full days on speed world games which I won a lot on, and rose 1100 to 1200 points in about 3 days.

It was the most fun 3 days Ive had in here, and Id do it again, if I had the time to win the points back. So intentionally losing is wrong, but losing points while trying to win, isnt wrong at all... theres many pages of players who do that every single day :D

It's a game. Games are about manipulation of various sorts, it just has to be within the rules.

Lan. already said intentional deadbeating was against the rules. But, if there was no intentional deabeating, then why does it even matter? I would certainly mistrust any player who offered to let me win.. for a lot of reasons, but, win or lose ... my points are not going to stay the same as long as I play.

You want to keep your rank? Sit and be bored. You want to play? Then realize you go down ... and up. (and down and up and down and up and ...)

Point dumping is not funny. People don't realize that they aren't just hurting themselves, they are hurting the whole community. When people dump points, those points go somewhere. They get into the ground water and the air we breath. Points take years to biodegrade. When you dump points, it's just like what Homer Simpson did in the simpsons the movie. Do you want someone to come and drop a giant plexiglass dome over CC. People, think before you dump. Separate your points and dispose of them properly, it's not a joke. :ugeek:

SPIKE WAS DRUNK

that is probably a shocker to all those who think he was doing it for a "cause" but he was drunk and deranking made him "happy"

tbh, someone at his old rank would have to be either really pissed or really drunk to auto lose 80 games

Blablabla- it's retarded.
But whatever is fun to them- who are we to judge. They aren't gaining an unfair advantage by doing so, and the few that abuse it and join multiple games won't gain SO much, either. Either way, he won't be enjoying "stripping" high ranks of their points- since everybody knows he fucked with the system and will play him much harder- I will, for sure.

Frankly, who cares that much about a couple of people's smale-scale opportunistic score fluctuations on an online Risk website?

Not me. That's for sure.

I don't know why we can't have our score reset in the first place anyways? I guess it could mess with the scoring system a little, but score is stripped of cheaters and they get to continue to play.

If we could just send in an E-ticket or PM a request to an Admin to have our score reset, it wouldn't be a problem, and there would be no way for other players to abuse the high ranked players deadbeating.
