[Rules] Random / Even Army Deployment On Missed Turn

Postby LazarusLong on Sat Dec 09, 2006 11:33 am

I hate when people miss turns. (I don't hate people who miss turns.)

The problem is that the armies from that turn get held off the board and can be depolyed on that person's next turn. If you have two or three borders with that person it is impossible to protect all of them from a double or triple deployment.

What if when someone misses a turn their armies for that turn get deployed for them randomly and evenly over all of their countries. This would remove all of the strategic advantage for skipping a turn and you wouldn't have to wonder if someone was doing it on purpose.

It can also be an advantage for the person that misses the turn if they have a continent they would get those armies on the missed turn even if it was broken on the next turn. Sometimes when someone misses a turn, I feel compelled to break their continent just to lessen the impact of the double deployment.

yeh. sounds just rite only people may feel cheated in an adjacent for game. if ur armies get deployed miles away from front line they r basically wasted

Good incentive not to miss a turn. I feel that it's better to have a slight disincentive to missing a turn rather than a tactical advantage.

As much as i hate double or triple deployments, it has to be said that not everybody can reach a computer every day. Anyway it still can disadvantage the player missing turns if they held multiple continents and then lost all the armies they could have deployed because somebody else has attacked them.

I believe this has been discussed before and lack or some other important person turned the idea down...

So instead of one person being slightly disadvantaged everyone else who didn't miss their turn should be very disadvantaged?

I definitely think this is a good idea... it's bad enough having to wait a day for someone to miss a turn, but then to think they might have done it on purpose just to get the double troops... and yeah, maybe they don't like having the armies all over the place, but none of the rest of the players like waiting a day for them to miss their turn, either ;)

Can I get an opinion from a moderator or even Lack?

I don't see a down side here and the random country deployment can be taken from the game set up code.

It's wery irritating. I won a continent and a guy who missed a turn step in with 3 +3 armies and already he have 3 armies on that spot so in general he end up with 9
http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=134225
and just walk through me on Southeast Coast.
And game is No card so you figure out, I lost 4 teritories and any chance in just one turn from guy that didnt do nothing

What the hell, why is everyone agreeing, this is a terrible idea. Random deployment renders your armies more or less useless, especially in adjacent games where stand offs develop, you may as well not give the armies. You're already at a disadvantage for missing turns.

Also the people who are on the forums all the time are probably not the people likely to miss turns, so their views are biased. The people who play CC for a short period each day and never check the forums are more likely to be the ones missing turns, but we don't get to hear their views.

You make some good points. I don't think there is going to be one completely fair solution. The problem with the current system is that is open to abuse and in some situations can be a huge advantage to the person that misses the turn. Granted there are also times where missing the turn can be a disadvantage. The point here is that if there is a disadvantage it should go to the person who misses the turn.

There are some advantages here too. If you hold a continent then you get those armies too when you miss. In the current system if you hold a continent and you miss and then it gets broken you don't get your continent bonus from the first turn.

I agree that if you are playing an adjacent game or even chained fortifications then the random deployment would be much worse than the unlimited games. My advice would be not to miss a turn. Or if you do then you don't care so much about what happens.

The forums are always biased towards those that read them and post there. Rules are made by people that show up.

anyone have some time to write a quick program to put them in the most beneficial place

im joking here, but it actually is possible, its not like computers cant play risk...the only problem is, the computer would be better than the people missing the turns...

People have lives! This is just as bad as all of the other ideas. If you have something that wont disadvantage anyone I might think about it. Any arguments to me?
