You might be onto something here...

NR's start with 0 points... every game they play - they gain 200 points until they're a normal player (i.e. 1000 points).

If they win - then they get 200 points - if they lose they get 200 points.

The other people get 0 points (from the NR) if they win - if they lose they lose normal points. (I considerd 0 but this stops the throw a game thing - would consider changing)

This way
a) NR's can't get farmed.
b) NR's don't cause inflation (in fact they may cause deflation)
c) NR's get some sort of reason to play the game (they get their points)

( I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE POSTITS AND NO ONE I'VE EVER ASKED HAS EXPLAINED IT!)

No. If they can up-rank that fast, it makes them worth multi-ism. My suggestion is, make them worth 1 point for the first say, 10 games. After that, worth 10.

Also, if they can take a big-rank's points like current, they can still up-rank fast.

They're essentially "worthless" until the point it's obvious they want to stick around.

No - New Recruits start at 1000 points already - this menas that they start with 1000 points after 5 games... that's the whole deal...

My point is, NR's should NOT start with 1,000 points. They should start with five, be worth "1" for x number of games, then get a hundred upon completing x number of games and be worth only +/- ten for a while after that until they gain the 500 or thousand needed to be a cadet.

Those who want to play, will continue to play, even if "increasing rank" is a slower process. Those who're multis may be discouraged, since it will take their new multi so long to be of any real value.

Seems a little unfair to suddenly start all new recruits on a lot lower than what everyone else is on though?

Thanks for the response Twill, much appreciated. Unlike some jaded people, I do believe that measures will eventually be taken to stop farming. It might not happen immediately, but hey, Imperium Romanum wasn't built in a day (just ask poor ole qwert hehe).

I do believe that the suggestions Twill has made (which I have seen in their own threads) are a viable solution, and the point made about newbie school offering an incentive is true. In order to develop a newbie school here, there would have to be significant mod and community effort to get it going to the point that it does offer tangible rewards. I think the 'unlocking' of maps is a far better option, and suits everyone's purpose.

Same thing happened when required scores changed for higher levels, in the past.
"Unfair" yes. But, balanced by the likelihood that far, far, less of them will be multis, and more experienced players will be more likely to help them get up the ladder fast.

Plus, if they like the game and play it frequently, that starting rate won't matter in the long run.

Another plus is, in order to GET up the rank more quickly, they may just decide to purchase premie so they can play more games and get there.

But, perhaps, lower the rate required for "cadet" from 1,000 to 500 to help.

i think they should just let noobs have 1000 points but they should only start gaining/losing points when they have played a certain amount of games

good idea but maybe we can have ghost games that only new recruits can play to get the basics instead of someone haveing to lose game spots (if they were freemium) and not gain any points. With ghost games we the new recruits could play against the computer. How do you like that. :D :D

Bad idea. How much can you really jump by noob farming? Let it go.....better to spend energy on something else.

My guess is, majority of top 100 are farmers and multi-cheaters. :o :(

I wouldn't say majority. I've played with many of the top players, and they are definitely tactically superios to most other players. The 3 ways to get on the front page is team games, 8p esc, and noob farming, from what I can tell

Uhhh, if I play a 1 v 1 game with a ? and I lose 200 points to them...I'm going to be pissed.

And talk about a great way to troll someone - start 5 multis, join games, destroy the conqueror by stealing 1000 points from them per multi.

Unless you mean "give them 200 points" without anyone losing any...but still, not so great.

The normal player would lose "Normal" points - i.e. they just lose what they would've lost if they had 1000 points.

Why not solve this once and for all, 'de-criminalise' farming. Let them farm if they want. I play this game because its fun, not for the points or the rank, (good job too if my score is to go by) its not as if we can convert them into cash or anything. There points, a number, thats phisicaly worthless, yes warn noobs that people farm, but you cant stop it without ruining the site.

For all the people who are ticked that the new recruits wouldn't be worth anything, well, those are pretty worthless points, aren't they? Don't get so pissed about not getting points from a cheap battle. And as for not getting anything from them, well, You don't have to join 1 v 1 games with them. And I bet there will be an underground movement started by someone in CC to seek out newbs and join games with them, just to teach them everything about the site. I've been to various games like this, and it usually happens.

Also, This could be an optional thing. As in, warn the new fish that they will be targeted for the first five games if they allow points earning, but let them choose anyways.

In my opinion, this would preserve the type who want to start earning points right away, appease the noob farmers (though their targets will be much less, AND protect the ones that want some experience before they get raped by an advanced player.

Great idea, though.
