No no Andy, I rather think not.
I'd rather you didn't try to dodge properly answering these questions by 'taking it to PMs'. I'd rather not just be fobbed off by platitudes in private, where nobody would be able to see you (and your whole team) fail to answer really simple questions about your decision making. I'd rather we avoided the usual CC tactic of 'stalling the issue till everybody forgets about it'.
In other words, I'd rather you all stopped desperately ducking and diving the question, and actually gave me a proper answer (though, props to Jpcloet for being the only man brave enough to have a go so far). Alternatively, if you can't give me a proper answer, then I'd rather we just dropped the ridiculous diversionary tactics for once, and you just admitted that an error occurred.
Basically: Screw the PM hanky-panky, if you (or whoever the mod was who did it) had a good reason for locking that thread , then surely you can just state it here and we can all be done with the issue. If you can point out to us why it was that the thread violated the guidelines, then we'll all be glad to understand and to let the issue drop.
We're really not unreasonable guys Andy; we're just not to keen on being the targets of arbitrary and capricious decisions by moderators who like to make up rules as they go along (as they appear to have done in this instance). We especially don't like it when those mods refuse to make themselves accountable and refuse to own up to being the decision-maker. And it really annoys us when those mods then refuse to answer our questions about their actions reasonably, instead choosing to make bland platitudinous deflections, false claims that an answer has already been given, and generally stalling the issue until it goes cold.
All we want is for you to either show us the clearly stated rule that applies in this instance, or to admit that somebody on the 'mod squad' screwed up and locked the thread for no good reason. Is a public apology for an obvious error that really too much to ask for?

So, is that basically just a veiled and coy way of saying "
you have upset us in the past DM, so now we treat you more harshly than we treat all of the other users... essentially meaning that the usual rules aren't the only ones that apply to you, and you also have to worry about an unseen plethora of extra 'just for DM' rules that we will also apply every now and then when we feel like punishing you, or when you scare us a little bit"?
Because that's how it sounds from here. Right or wrong?
Wrong? Fine... then explain to me in clear and simple English (not yet another meaningless ambiguous remark) what it is that you were actually trying to say.
AndyDufresne wrote:Some things are better left for private usergroups, and some things are better left no posted at all as well.
Well then how about you go write some guidelines that clearly indicate what those things are. Instead of just making it all up as you go along?
That way we'll be able to avoid these kind of ridiculous incidents in the future, and nobody will be able to accuse you of playing favourites and/or screwing up. Again.
PS. Also, do yourself a favour and quit with the ridiculous 'riddle-me-ree' style of platitudes that you insist on using when you're posting with your admin-hat on. They don't make you sound wise, they don't make you sound measured, they don't make you sound calm... they just make you sound like you're unable to make strong decisions on
anything and are desperately trying to bullshit your way out of trouble.
Speak clearly and say what you mean. Then we'll all be able to actually resolve issues in the future, instead of just getting annoyed at the fact that we appear to be being moderated by incompetents who can't even properly answer simple questions..
