I hate it when a team drops during their bye week. Happened to Georgia in 07.

LOL . . . how so ? ? ? Did Boise State not open the season by whuppin' Oregon?
Since BSU has no real challenges remaining, it's their schedule that hurts in the BCS,

BSU (8-0) Schedule

Miami (OH) (1-8) . . . 48-0
Fresno State (5-3) . . . 51-34

UC-Davis (4-4) . . . 34-16
Tulsa (4-4) . . . 28-21
Hawaii (2-6). . . 54-9
San Jose State (1-6) 45-7
Louisiana Tech (3-5)
Idaho (7-2) who lost to Washington (3-5) 42-23 and Nevada (5-3) 70-45.
Utah State (2-6)
Nevada (5-3)
New Mexico State (3-6)

UO (7-1) Schedule
#14 Boise State (8-0) . . . 19-8
Purdue (3-6) . . . 38-36
#18 Utah (7-1) . . . 31-24
#6 California (6-2) . . . 42-3
Washington State (1-7) . . . 52-6
UCLA (3-5) . . . 24-10

Just looked at a blog for an upcoming game between Wyoming and BYU (by the way, Wyoming stayed ahead of the Utes for 3 quarters, and they moved up? oh well), and I was surprised at the hostility between BYU and Utah. I know that Wyoming Fans can get pretty agitated (having worked the games 2 years in a row), but wow. That is some rivalry. Though with Wyoming holding Utah back for 3/4 of a game, it is showing that the Cowboys are making major improvements and may upset the balance of the MWC in the next few years.

Yeah but after they lost to Boise State, they went on to beat three ranked teams(as you know) while BS went on to beat a string of glorified high school teams. And I'd like to know how both of are ranked above Iowa :-s They're 9-0 with a tougher schedule than Boise St.
Since I made that last post, I've been working on a system to replace the BCS BS system cuz I'm getting tired of this same crap happening year after year. My brain hurts now.

Well... IF TEXAS runs the table and survives the Big 12 Championship, they would likely face an undefeated SEC Champion ALABAMA/FLORIDA for the mythical NCAA National Championship.

Iowa, TCU, Cincy and BSU's unblemished records will become moot and they will likely face off against each other in bowl games. Should any of these teams remain unbeaten after January... then the arguments of who played the toughest schedule and who's the best can continue.

BUT... the Oregon Ducks already laid an egg and have no chance of a title appearance without five teams ranked above then losing a game.

If you live anywhere near Utah the animosity between those two schools wouldn't surprise you in the least. They call it the "Holy War" around here, the battle between the righteous (BYU) and the heathens (Utah). :P Of course that description depends entirely upon which school you attend.

The "Beck to Harline" moment from a few years back was one of the greatest things to ever happen for a BYU fan. :)

Wait, you are in Provo? Are you coming to the BYU Wyoming game this Saturday?

As it turns out, though Wyoming has a LONG standing rivalry with CSU, a lot of UW fans really, well, despise BYU, especially the fan base. So it is not just Utah fans that hold a serious grudge. Though if the game on Halloween was meant as anything, if the O-line can step it up and do their job, there is room for an upset victory over No. 25 BYU.

Nah, I won't be going to the game in Wyoming this week, but I do have tickets to the next BYU home game against Air Force. Yes, I am in Provo, graduating from BYU next April. However, I'm a realistic BYU fan. I know that with the Honor Code that all students at this university have to agree to we are going to miss out on recruiting certain players who would simply rather go elsewhere.

While I believe that someday we will have a legitimate shot at a national title again, I know that we would have to be incredibly lucky to have that happen. For now I'm happy with 10 or 11 win seasons on a regular basis and stockpiling some conference championships to build the "resume" so-to-speak.

Now, if we could just convince Boise State, Fresno State, and Houston to join the Mountain West and make a 12 team conference with a title game...

Probably won't be going myself, but I will still watch it and root for the Cowboys (and pray that their O-line is finally in order).

So, with the game last week, how do you think Wyoming is going to against BYU? We did hold the lead on Utah for 3/4 of the game. And with plays like what Austin Carta-Samuels and Robert Benjamin pulled off for that touchdown, Wyoming is proving that it is already a different program then last year.

Yeah, my opinion is that Jim McMahon is one of the darker spots on the BYU football program. I'll never be proud of the fact that he was allowed to get away with what he did while he was on campus.

I think it will be a relatively close game, but in the end I think BYU will still find a way to win. They've dominated the conference for long enough now and very few teams have been able to find an answer for our offense (can't say the same about our defense). Excluding TCU and Florida State obviously.

If it turns into a shootout, Wyoming is in trouble, as McKay Jacobson is back this week, but if it is a defensive struggle, it's either teams game to win I think.

Offensive, I can saee it hard on the Cowboys. Defensive, I have to give it to the Pokes, as we have 3 of the top ranked tacklers in the nation, and the rest of the D-Line is no pushover either, sacking Cain of the Utes twice in a row in the 2nd quarter. As well as holding Air Force to a season low of 10 points.

I honestly can say I don't know too much about the MW conference or BYU.

On another note, I think LSU Alabama should be a good game. I believe that Alabama will win but I think it should be interesting how they perform coming off the bye and the narrow win over Tennessee two weeks ago.

The MWC is a young conference, with the majority splitting off from the WAC about 10 years ago, and TCU joined up about 4-5 years ago as the newest member of the conference. Though, it seems some want to get BSU in it, 1. geographical location 2. So they actually play teams that are not pushovers the majority of the season.

I think getting Boise and another quality team into the conference would help boost the mountain west a lot. Give the conference a better chance at making a NC appearance.

Well, like Optimus said, there are talks (don't know if any of it is official) of expanding the MWC to 12 teams. Though, with the MWC, major upsets have happened before in conference play (and non, with Wyoming beating Tennesee last year, and Wyoming was HORRIBLE last year), so it isn't all bad. There has been some shuffling around, as well as some long standing rivalries, UW and CSU, BYU and Utah, CSU and AFA. TCU hasn't really been in the conference long enough to actually have any in conference rivals, but it seems Utah is the closest thing thus far.

I suspect TCU has a target on their backs in the Mountain West, being unbeaten and the highest ranked team in the conference. Utah and TCU should be rivals soon enough with their success in recent years. Wyoming (4-8) did thump Tennessee (5-7) 13-7 to get their fourth win last year and you think maybe the Cowboys are on the verge of repeating 2004's seven win season?

Alabama/LSU, Ohio State/Penn State and Oklahoma/Nebraska this weekend.
Wyoming at BYU and Georgia at Tennessee Tech and Navy at Notre Dame.

7 wins this season, maybe not. Maybe in the next few years if we can get our O-line improved. But how many other teams have given big scares to the likes of TU (first half at least) and Utah (nearly the entire game)? We are certainly improved since last year, and the few before that.

Also, it is BYU at Wyoming this year, not vice versa. ;)

I definitely expect Alabama/LSU and OHIo ST/Penn St. to be really good games I would expect the same for Oklahoma/Nebraska as those two were pretty much the class of the Big 12 for several years not too long ago but Nebraska's been out of the National spotlight for a bit and Oklahoma's had a rough season so far so who knows what to expect.
