*edit* These two comments were made in public about a private conversation.
BigBallinStalin wrote:Right, this whole debate goes back to that thread you started where we discussed whether or not American intervention is responsible for contributing to terrorism. We went back and forth, it went well, but then you kept losing ground so you constantly tried to go off topic, and then you avoided the topic all together. You privately told me you couldn't read 5 minutes worth of material and ran away. If you want to, you can go find the thread yourself. It's got several pages, started from some newspaper article, it should take ya about 10 minutes to find..
BigBallinStalin wrote: Through our PMs with each other, you'd say that you would show my thread to someone else (a professor I presume, or someone much more intelligent than you) and now you've ran back with his point of view. Thank you, and if you can give me his contact information, I'd more than enjoy talking to a well-informed man on this issue and other points as well. You, Gabon, really have nothing of your own to bring to the table.
Had you really thought of this yourself, you wouldn't have argued against the premise that US intervention contributes to terrorism (to put it generally). You would've readily agreed, but countered with this reply which took you so long to come up with. I honestly can't believe you have reached such a conclusion through your own means given the history of your poorly informed and propaganda-ridden replies on anything regarding the Middle East. You're the kind of person who can't figure out the answer for himself or is too lazy to find the answer by oneself. You don't think, you regurgitate, and your puke is making this forum smell bad.

In the whole of the conversation I never stated that I had to "show the thread to someone else." This is a lie.
The irony (as is plainly obvious considering the text in the above quotation) is that the whole incident got started because Stallin was offended that I had bolded a word in a thread, which he perceived to be an insult to his intelligence. Apparently Stallin thinks that it is childish to insult people on these forums, yet he does it himself on a regular basis.
The PM correspondence began when I had the audacity to bolden a word in a thread and he took offense..

If you form an opinion on a given thing, anything really, before you've heard people argue both sides of the debate, you've made a decision prematurely.

The following is the much anticipated PM correspondence between us.

When I typed comprehend, it wasn't directed at anyone, and in my opinion it was not belittling or offensive. I merely used that word because someone else was talking about how scientific journals tend to be way above layman's terms, which I completely agree with, hence:If I have some free time this weekend, I think I can find some astronomy articles about this. They're not too difficult to comprehend.
However, you've handled this in a very immature fashion by insulting my intelligence, which is really not a great way to be taken seriously.

I agree with Stallin, assuming he believes that this principle applies to people other than just himself, that insulting people is not a great way to be taken seriously.
Unfortunately despite holding views, Stallin still says things like:

If you're really concerned about this kind of thing, I would strongly suggest that you reexamine your post style.
Consider it a courtesy that I'm sending this to you in private.
BigBallinStalin wrote:Ignored.
Gabon, your reply was immature, and you know it.
GabonX wrote:I don't think it was immature but I think that your response very much is. It was a response to poor word choice on your part, and I do believe that you were intentionally trying to be demeaning. Here are some other examples where you demean people that you say don't comprehend an issue because they disagree with you:You obviously don't understand the consequences of our actions and the reactions of many in those countries when we bolster the undemocratic regimes that suppress their own people.Do you really not understand criminal prosecution regarding terrorism or do you just like being a jackass, Night Strike?
All right, you got me. You technically said "understand," but "understand" and "comprehend" mean the same thing.
You frequently accuse other posters of being dumb, ignorant, or not understanding an issue, so you're emotional rant about me bolding/italicizing the word comprehend is rather hypocritical.
BigBallinStalin wrote:Night Strike was truly being a jackass, so I'm called him out on it, and he stopped. (Probably because he liked getting people so heated up, but who knows, I can't speak for him). I still think he's a good man.You obviously don't understand the consequences of our actions and the reactions of many in those countries when we bolster the undemocratic regimes that suppress their own people.
Considering what you've been saying in that thread and in the other which you chose to ignore after poorly defending yourself, I have much evidence that supports my quote. You frequently accuse other posters of being dumb, ignorant, or not understanding an issue, so you're emotional rant about me bolding/italicizing the word comprehend is rather hypocritical.
I don't frequently do such a thing. I rarely have done so; you're just being hypersensitive which is preventing you from thinking clearly. And it's not a rant, it's very well laid out, very easy to read. As for hypocritical, perhaps to small degree, but sometimes I feel that you need to be told when you're being outright rude. You simply jumped to a conclusion without thinking of other possible reasons and insulted me. That is a good example of an emotional rant.

I think it's very telling that you would take such offense to someone using the same word that you used in the same context.
You frequently insult other posters. If you have a problem with this kind of tone, STOP

I've been active in that thread. There's really nothing there that can't be addressed by re-reading the post you dissected.
Frankly your response was too boring and long winded to be worth my time. We've talked about this before.
Admittedly this wasn't my best response, but my patience was really being tried. I don't have infinite time which I can put into this forum and I spend too much time as it is. Going on:

Also, we were talking about the Global Cooling thread...
BigBallinStalin wrote:Ahaha, gabon, honestly, all you need to do is read the 1st paragraph of each response to your comment. It's right on topic but it's long because you kept expanding the debate--no fault of mine.
If you really want to debate about this, then read each 1st paragraph. Also, you have yet to even address the issue at hand. Each paragraph underneath is a great example. You see what happens is that I thoroughly beat down your points that you bring up and you squirm away by trying to avoid them and then bring up something that's just as weak.
Gabon, if you're seriously persuing a career in Middle Eastern History, then you've got a lot to learn before you write anything without getting laughed at.
BigBallinStalin wrote:My apologies. I hope such a drastic shift in gears didn't seriously injure your brain.
GabonX wrote:BigBallinStalin wrote:Gabon, if you're seriously persuing a career in Middle Eastern History, then you've got a lot to learn before you write anything without getting laughed at.
You're mistaken. I'm a historian with a focus on Middle Eastern history. I'm not interested in making a career of writing about the Middle East but my knowledge of it is extensive.
I'm also not that interested in what you have to say, partially do to your tone and partially because so much of it is misguided or outright wrong. It's not worth my time to address every thought that you may have.
If you want to have a dialogue, keep things short and sweet. If not I'm going to pick and choose as I see fit.
BigBallinStalin wrote:Obviously, you can't defend yourself.
It's very simply. For every quote I made, read the 1st paragraph, if you disagree then read the following examples. That would only take 10 minutes. You simply can't defend yourself properly, so you dump this rubbish excuse on me.
I don't know where the following messages came from but they're entertaining nonetheless. He started a new PM chain to tell me that:
BigBallinStalin wrote:As a fair warning, most of what I've written is copywritten.

If you copy my work without my permission, it's good grounds for a lawsuit.
