Personally i would vote to have Lack hack the forum software and make it possible for forum banned persons to access theyr pm's, unless ofcourse thats what got them banned...lol

however, would i vote to have Lack do this instead of something 9anything really) more interesting to the whole of the community? hell no... to me it has a very low priority. Partly bans are irrational, they are based on perceived actions and not on your true motivation and intent. However, most bans can be seen coming from a mile. Its not like you get banned just because you got (un)lucky in todays lottery.. Now Wicked is an old story by now, but it was rare even then.

Now eh. my contribution? dont get banne which takes lacks time and make sure we can have lack focus on fixing/improving things. inevitable he will get around to it, i hope.

also putting out a call for programmers who know the forums software. If you got a simple patch that will solve all these things, then bring it on.!

I spent some time digging through our TeamCC Archives, since I know years ago when this was first brought up, Twill, Lack, and myself looked for a solution.

We spent time creating a 'holding cell' type usergroup---where busted multis and forum vacations would be sent to. Unfortunately, we could never get the functionality to really limit anyone's access to forum the ways we wanted to---and that is why we went with the Guest usergroup since it accomplished the functionality we were looking for.

I'll look back into things and see if there is a newer way, but I don't think the forum software has changed, since we've been on 3.0 phpBB the whole time during the issue.

If you lose your ability to read your PM when hit with a forum ban than it is a part of the punishment. Yeah it might be a software problem but with the way things are set up here that makes it part of the punishment.

It is part of the consequences for breaking the rules.

Just get rid of the forums. Players can pm abuses, suggestions, and complaints and you can have an announcement page or a newsletter to respond. I have made friends here through playing and some of my friends have disappeared for long periods of time because they spoke their minds and perhaps tactlessly but nevertheless it was the way they communicate and have been banned for it. That has hurt my enjoyment of the game because they were limited in their participation of games because we could no longer communicate. I myself posted my opinion and analysis of what is wrong with the ratings, mods, and etc. and was told by your head goon in charge of the forums that I should have more respect for them. I consider that a veiled threat to my ability to play and interact with the players that I am closest to. Is some 21 year old kid with a hard on for Harry Potter going to ban me because I spoke my mind? I think maybe he will. I've paid for my premium for several years and the premiums for a couple of others I play with. I made the assumption because the service was offered that I could pm them to facilitate games and or tourneys. If you take away their or my forum privileges because you don't agree with the way they or I express themselves and it also removes the pm ability then you renege on the services paid for. Lose the forums and the moderators. If you haven't noticed the forums are filled with ugly hate filled idiots anyway. The forums are really an embarrassment to the site and the game. I'm going to give Lack the benefit of the doubt that he doesn't look at the forums to see how badly they discredit CC. I wish he would read this since we can't send him a message personally. I suppose I will be banned now.

i guess nobody read this since they are still proclaiming that it isn't the phpBB but part of the ban... not so shockingly it is people with coloured names that are the worst offenders of not having read this and continuing with an argument that was just laid to rest.-the black jesus

Owen you like to throw around how nobody reads, so please reread what I said, and I highlighted the part that you seem to have missed.

it is not part of the punishment, it is a phpBB problem. andy, lack and twill have all said it. no matter how hard you try to state otherwise, it does not make it so. it is a phpBB problem, not part of the punishment by default or any other way you try to rationalize it. the only people that have PM's removed as part of their punishment are PM violators. it is that simple... when it can be changed, it will be changed... Lord V seems to have a grasp on it, why don't you go have a chat with him so he can enlighten you!!! i love you semp, but you are wrong!!!-the black jesus

It is known that if you get a forum ban you cant use the pm function, thus it is part of the punishment. Just because it should not be part of the punishment or is not intended to be part of the punishment doesn't mean that it is not part of the punishment.

When you get caught drinking and driving and lose your licence, you can't drive yourself to McDonald's anymore. Does this mean you are banned from McDonald's?

That is completely different first off. Second off i never said I feel it should be part of the punishment. That said i would way rather lack spend resources on other things that helping punish users less for breaking the guidelines. As it stands when you get punished for violating the forum guidelines you lose access to your pm's, thus it is part of the punishment. Clearly we different views on the matter dont see why we need to go back and forth saying the same thing.

yeah, we don't need to go back and forth when ANDY himself has agreed that the loss of PM's is not part of the punishment, but is a fault of the phpBB and will be changed as soon as it can be. you are a wonderful member of the jr. mod squad, obtuse and unwilling to admit you are wrong, even when what you are stating has been dismissed by an ADMIN... keep on shining you bright star!-the black jesus

Actually owen, you really are missing the point here. What they are saying is that right now it is part of the punishment by default. And thats true. They know when they hand out the punishment that it affects pms too, so it is part of the punishment.

Its true they may not want it to be, or would have it be if they had the power, but right now, it is part of the punishment. That is all they are saying. If things change, the punishment may change as the punishment system has changed many times in the past.

This is all semantics, but in the end, if you get banned, you lose pm privileges, and you know you will, and they know you will, so be warned about getting banned. It is clear if an opportunity arises to change it, it may very well be changed.
