I have to admit that I wonder if you'll ever get past this fixation you have with conservatism-vs-liberalism.

I'm not sure that this alleged fixation has anything to do with the OP.

Other than the whole point of it, you mean?

Fixation implying that I'm some sort of cheerleader? Or mindless parader? I think you know that independently judge issues on their merits. Nice try though.

Woodruff wrote:No, that wasn't what I was saying...if it were, I wouldn't have referenced "liberalism". Rather, my point was that you seem to be unable to get beyond the conservatism-vs-liberalism dichotomy, as if everything must be broken down into those terms. As if this couldn't possibly be a problem with Rosie O'Donnell and we shouldn't focus on that but rather we should focus on "She's a liberal and nobody's bashing her!".
Now, I do tend to think that you ARE a "cheerleader" and sometimes a "mindless parader", but in this particular instance, you're more of a "whiner" in that you're whining that liberals aren't called out for things that conservatives are.

There is a conservative vs. liberal dichotomy in the media. That's the freaking point. That has nothing to do with a fixation. It's a matter of simply acknowledging that reality.
And I wasn't discussing/judging whether Rosie O'Donnell's feelings were genuine, moronic, brave, cowardly, etc. I never attempted to make a judgment one way or another. I attempted to regard how this is a non story in the media b/c it is a liberal whereas how would a conservative be slammed if he/she made the same statements? Is there a reason that you cannot regard that matter?

So you're saying that conservatives and liberals get equal treatment in the media? You're saying that if a conservative made those statements it would not be more of a story in the media?

If the person was as irrelevant as Rosie Odonnel, yes.
Shes a comedian...not a funny one mind you...but a comedian nonetheless. If however, Jon Stewart said this, it would absolutely be a news story, and theyd crucify him, because he is relevant, and political, and actually entertaining.
It didnt make a story, because seriously, who really cares? Its not surprising, or interesting.

You can't believe that. I can't think of one off the wall thing that Stewart has said that he has been crucified for in the general media.natty dread wrote:I happened to stumble on an article on a somewhat liberal website, which is calling out Rosie o:s behaviour

True__ Huff post has some stature. I'm talking about how the major networks and newspapers would constantly be trumping the story more. But that is something.

Perhaps you could point out something you believe he SHOULD have been crucified in the general media for...then we can look at it.
