I don't know where you get your news, but here in North America pretty much everyone knows the Karzai regime was a puppet regime.

Me upset? No. Or at least not about this. Somewhat bemused would be closer to the truth. I can't find a really good word for it.

I just find something weird about the way right-wingers like to state commonly-known facts as if they were deep dark secrets known only to a few.

It's sort-of similar to the way that some like to say "the media won't cover this story" about various things like the truckers' strike, whereas in actual fact it's getting wall-to-wall media coverage. It forms a positive-feedback loop to imagine that some fact is being deliberately withheld, even though it's available on every newstand.

The Russian Ground Forces have 200 TOS-1A 24-tube thermobaric rocket launchers outside Kiev. These can, together, put 5,000 rockets on target every 15 minutes.



Russia could probably kill and injure 30,000 Kiev residents in the space of an hour at basically zero risk to its own forces. The fact that the great atrocity of the siege of Kiev is that 13 people were injured when a Russian aircraft accidentally hit a hospital should be all the proof a reasonably intelligent person needs that RU is being exceptionally cautious about non-combatant casualties.

They are not winning this war and Ukraine puts up a huge resistance. So he goes to his playbook to try to break the will and determination of the Ukrainian people by attacking civilians and hospitals and other buildings used only by civilians. (Such tactics have been used by invaders and despots many times before. We now define the worst of such actions as possible or actual war crimes.)

I am sure this occurred in Chechnya. There were fewer journalists there and pukin' putin used the cover of "fighting Islamic terrorists" to justify some of his inhumane actions and killing of Islamic civilians. You can see my previous post on this topic.

Ukrainian forces including citizen-soldiers who only last month never dreamed of firing a weapon in anger were holding out in Kyiv and other frontlines, while Russian troops, tanks and artillery made slow progress from the north, south and east.

Moscow's stated objectives of crushing the Ukrainian military and ousting the pro-Western elected government of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy remained out of reach, with Zelenskiy unshaken and lethal Western military aid pouring across the Polish and Romanian borders.

Western-led sanctions designed to cut the Russian economy and government from international financial markets were beginning to bite, with the Russian sharemarket and rouble plunging and ordinary Russians rushing to hoard cash.

Zelenskiy accused Russia of carrying out genocide after Ukrainian officials said Russian aircraft bombed a children's hospital on Wednesday, burying patients in rubble despite a ceasefire deal for people to flee the besieged city of Mariupol.

The attack, which authorities said injured women in labour and left children in the wreckage, underscored U.S. warnings that the biggest assault on a European state since 1945 could become increasingly attritional after Russia's early failures.

The White House condemned the hospital bombing as a "barbaric use of military force to go after innocent civilians".

Russian had earlier pledged to halt firing so at least some trapped civilians could escape the port city, where hundreds of thousands have been sheltering without water or power for more than a week. Both sides blamed the other for the failure of the evacuation.

"What kind of country is this, the Russian Federation, which is afraid of hospitals, is afraid of maternity hospitals, and destroys them?" Zelenskiy said in a televised address late on Wednesday.
