hulmey wrote:All these complaints,,,How the hell did this map get 40 odd votes?? Personally i think the Canada has been raped and its gonna be a dark day for CC when its replaced with WM's map
DiM wrote:the whole revamp thing is for graphics only and since graphics are the most important here i think it's safe to say the first impression is really important. most people will cast their vote after a 30 second glance over the maps very few stay and watch carefully each map and then decide.
let's take a quick glance:
A: too much red
B: too shiny in the center
C: too white
D: too dark
E: is the water frozen? too bright
F: too spacy
wooo a shiny water alien map i'll vote for that.
oh crap it's not in the poll. oh well i'll vote for the google earth thingy cause it looks cool.
i'm willing to bet an arm and a leg that if wm mock map would have been added in the poll it would have amassed more votes than all other maps put together.
now let's take a better look:
A: yes it has a lot of red by that can be solve with 2 clicks. the beaver and coin could be removed and the text tweaked. but look at those nice maple leaves. smart thinking. overall a nice crisp touch
B: global lighting could use a reposition or a dampening and the title and legend should be repositioned. but i love the nice touch and especially the gorgeous mountains
C: perhaps a more pastelated chart of color could help this map. love the elevation chart and the representation. nifty idea.
D: the darkness is really cool. looks grungy. but it could use a bit of a gradient feel to it. perhaps it's a bit too strong. keep the feel but make it less.
E: too bright looking. perhaps darkening the water a bit would look better. and the mountains could use some tweaking as they seem to be the focal point of the map because of the contrast. love the title. nice gimmick
F: the borders are too blurry and in many places they aren't true to the background image. and the mountain pass simply scratches the eye. also while adding the maple leaf in the title might seem nice it actually isn't why only the second A is a leaf? why not all? it actually makes you read it as canOda. but look at how cool the earth looks. it makes you really see how big canada is. very nice.

MR. Nate wrote:really? That's your defense for the fact that you don't like the map that won? "People just voted without paying much attention"? It couldn't possibly that a lot of people actually think it's the best map? There are a select few, (presumably who voted against it) who are highly critical. The people who like it don't even have to defend it: IT WON! Meaning, it's the map the people wanted more than any of the other options. Therefore, it receives the honor of going on.
Perhaps the old, dictatorial style of the mods simply telling the foundry who was going to do the revamps was better?
AndyDufresne wrote:It has some work to be done, but I think with the Foundry's input, we can craft a great REVAMP.

Excellent job on another map, and I can't wait to see what it turns out to be
WidowMakers wrote:As for the map. I am basically starting over.
I need to get the map to be sharper and that is my first priority. Once I get that done I will then work on the shadows and texturing.

C) Like It... Probably one of the closest to a real Map as far as topography and Elevation... Font needs to change... Legend needs Work... the black border lines are too heavy...
I think the 4 way border was handled nicely and stays true to actual border lines... And the Blizzard Representing the Impassable Is awesome... but he needs to add an Impassable by Fort 7
Kaplowitz wrote:lol, its funny how you critiqued your own. It worked though, i didnt think it was yours.
That is correct. I am redoing the map, but the same way.edbeard wrote:I'm pretty sure he's redoing it in the same style just to be sharper and cleaner. That seemed evident to me from his post.
It's probably better to wait and see the image he posts before getting worked up about it.
hulmey wrote:Maybe your not understanding me. What is a RE-Vamp? Im sure we are all intelligent men!!
This is more than a Revamp its a compeletly different style altogether. If you put the old map and the new map side by side you wouldnt even recognize they are from the same area.
Maybe tighter rules have to be enforced regarding ReVamps??
Please dont get me wrong there is room for this map but i think the present Canada map should be revamped in hte same style. Like you did with inchondia and keyogi did with the Middle East!!
Circus Maximus was a revamp and it looks completely different.hulmey wrote:Maybe your not understanding me. What is a RE-Vamp? Im sure we are all intelligent men!!
