Moving this map into Map Ideas now.

Ben, if you are not familiar with HOw A Map Proceeds Throught The Foundry....perhaps you might take a minute or so to have a read thanks.

Also, just wanted to say that this is a very nice piece of work to start with. Keep up the good work. :) Welcome to the Foundry!

Gimil...from my perspective i don't think there is any reason for a name change on this....your map is clearly "Fuedal Wars - Classic", and upon inspection people will see that there is no relevance from the shapes of the land masses. I think there is room in the foundry for a map called Fuedal Japan, if this map continues with that theme.

What does Coleman or Andy think?

i thought this was a gimil map, from it name

I still like it though,

slightly confused at this point in time, give me a few minutes to work it out before i give you any comments on gameplay. but for now:

i not a fan of the typefont, i like fancy texts but it is slightly too hard to read.

I love the castle bonuses

I dont like the drop shadow it has, personally i have always though that japan should be done like san fransisco , a realistic image behind with a glow over it to show territories,

maybe make the legend a scroll of some sort.

the borders on pink are a bit hard to see :P

the random mountain i find a bit messy and pointless :P

that will do for now i think.

Ben...i must also say to you that there is already a map of Japan in development in this Map Ideas section, which has been on-going for the last few weeks.

It is not for us to determine which one gets through the Foundry the fastest nor is there any contest in this, but you might like to contact unit_2 and determine which way both of you are going to go so that both maps are not proegessing in the same manner and they both have something different to offer to CC as a whole. :)

ben, the map looks very good.

one thing that i noticed was that nigata should be niigata.

also you shouldn't use that japanese flag. that's the japanese naval flag and has negative connotations (a la nazi germany) according to my girlfriend. seeing as this is an edo period map you could use the normal japanese flag and the tokugawa crest

Image

and you need to put something darker behind the legend! it's very hard to distinguish the colors from one another.

I like this alot better than the other japan thread. Feudal Japan is where its at from a conquering aspect. Who the hell wants to play on a modern japan.

But you need to lose the chopstick font, its degrading.

I'm helping on the map Unit_2 is making but to be honest I like this idea better...Land is better organised in this map...

It needs some work though but for a first draft its looking good...

-Please change the font, I know it's cool because it looks Japanese but it's no readable enough...
-the mountains doesnt fit in this map...
-if I get this wright castles can't attack?
-I think you can move the army circles on the islands...We know there is an island...right now your circles are in the sea lines... (Oki and Sado)

I look forward to an update with all 'eye candy's'

In reality Gnome is doing all the graphics for your map so what exactly are you making of the japan map.... besides how many maps have you started and than quit right away... this one looks much better and maybe he will actually get the map to final forge instead of 3 weeks of doing nothing (like you normally do) than abandoning the map.

QFT.

im glad some1 competent finally decided to do japan, and i personally like feudal japan as a CC map than modern japan.

i love the font but like everyone else said, its not readable.

i would rather u try a sea background or something else than just have it floating on white.

t.e.c is right about the flag. that is a 1940s time period flag from WWII that the japanese navy used, and it doesnt represent japan in the right way. try for an old flag or use the white with red dot in middle one. either way is better than the current flag.

ur gonna need better mountains, and use a differnt colour for the pink region.

if this is ur large, are u able to make the terts clear on the small and fit all those army circles and names?

As others have said, the font needs to be more readable. Also, I think dark blue (Kanto) should be worth 2. Three is too much IMO, especially with Edo right next to it.
Besides that, great first draft!

I don't think the font needs to change. I don't see anywhere I might get confused.

There is no problem calling this Feudal Japan, sorry gimil.

As for the multiple Japan map issue...

My impression was that Unit_2 & Gnome's Japan map was to be Modern Japan and would lack gimmicks except for maybe teleportation via the rail/subway stations.

This is going to be Feudal Japan, with capitols in the form of castles with Alcatraz functionality with the only teleport being the port city. This is different gameplay.

So I feel both maps are different enough that they could both be quenched eventually even though they represent the same geographic region.

Thanks Coleman...I also feel they could co-exist. :)

The font looks like it's from a chinese menu

get rid of that stupid rising sun symbol - it has nothing to do with feudal japan

hmm... commenting on the colours: it doesn't feel like it's a map of feudal japan, but i guess it could work. Those two other ones are of greater priority

a general problem with Japan maps has been the shape of the landmass you're working with... little of the total image is playable land, and there is a lot of dead space. This looks better than past attempts, but beware the small map.

Graphic comments

Postby pamoa on Sat May 03, 2008 4:30 am

Nice work, i like to see someone taking the japanese job in hands again!

First of all you should post the new vesion of your map in your first thread by edting it so all can see the job evolution!

About graphics i would say you made a decissive step from your 1st version. But...
I do not feel the ancient japanese graphic style in your map.

Some suggestions:
Work on the basis of a dark line (japanese ink) on a clear background, maybe like old paper or even wood panels.
And then make some watercolor effects in your color filling with maybe some little details like pine or montains in a darker ink.
Give more white space to your lists, white space is very important in japanese painting.
Crests are great, they are really fond of such things and so do I.

If you pm me an e-mail adress i can send you some images wich can help you!

Go on =D>
De gueules à la tour d'argent ouverte, crénelée de trois pièces, sommée d'un donjon ajouré, crénelé de deux pièces
Gules an open tower silver, crenellated three parts, topped by a apertured turret, crenellated two parts
