OK you can call it how you see it and I will call it what it is.

When you get 2 of your buddies to join your team game in the PUBLIC section you are playing a PUBLIC game as an organized TEAM.

Now a new recruit comes along and sees an option to join a team game. He has no idea this game was actually set up and all the players play with each other frequently and went to the extent to organize the teams. This new recruit looks at the game and sees anybody can join at any time. He does not yet realize no other high ranked player is going to join his team especially considering they already know the deal.

It's promoting an organized team as a public game with random people joining. You can argue it any way you please, but new recruits have no idea what's going on when they first join and therefor they got scammed/taken advantage of.

Well worded. My thoughts as well.

disagree completely on calling it a scam, it is legal, I agree with fitz, some do knew and have buddies who tell them and some of the new recruits won games and knew how to play long before this was on the internet, also, many good players joined against good players too, and sometimes many good players lost and dont join them or against them anymore. we all will just have to agree to disagree, move on.

Don;t tell me when you scan through the open games you don't salivate at a pair of crowns waiting to have 100 points taken each :)

now, back onto the topic of inflation: that bubble of 2000 players you see stacking up right now? they are all going to move into the 3000 range soon enough.

Once you get a crit mass at each level, it inevitably moves up as it becomes easier for players at that level to get points: the more 2k players, the less 3k players risk in games against them and the more points they can win from them. If there are lots of 2k players then there are lots more people for 3k players to challenge and the points come in from a different pool rather than being shared around the 3k pool only.

That bubble will keep moving through to the 3ks, promise ;)

and that brings us full circle:

Well done to everyone joining the higher ranks, well earned :)

Twill I cant argue with your logic but in practice an awful lot of players hit the wall between 2000-2500 points, the increasing percentage of Captains is nowhere close to being matched by a subsequent percentage increase above that rank.

"Hit the wall indeed". I can't for the life of me attain 2500. I try and try. I made it to 2340 and the brakes came on. The initial goal was 2000 points or colonel under the old point system. This was always a challenge. Now that I am there, it is easy to maintain yet hard to proceed. Maybe I'm a destined captain; no more, no less.

This is the definition:

scam /skæm/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[skam] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation noun, verb, scammed, scam·ming.
–noun 1. a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, esp. for making a quick profit; swindle.

fraud
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin fraud- fraus
1 a : any act, expression, omission, or concealment calculated to deceive another to his or her disadvantage; specifically : a misrepresentation or concealment with reference to some fact material to a transaction that is made with knowledge of its falsity or in reckless disregard of its truth or falsity and with the intent to deceive another and that is reasonably relied on by the other who is injured thereby b : the affirmative defense of having acted in response to a fraud

I guess it basically comes down to how well you actually understand the english language. Maybe it's just denial. Either way it was about misleading players into believing it was a public game. It was a private team set up in a public setting. I guess you could just call it "hustling" and feel better about it. Doesn't really matter because lack obviously thought it shouldn't be legal. have a wonderful day.

Problem is that even if they were the best player with the boardgame that when they come here and see all the new maps they more than likely will lose the first time playing these new maps.

I remember the first time I played the USA map and got tore up because the boundaries weren't clear like they are now. Same with Europe etc. Until the new players been around long enough and go through the learning curve, those are free points to the "established teams."

well thats the thing.. theres no misrepresentation..... in fact... its was very obvious to me that if I joined two players that had good ranks, I wasnt going to win..... and if I wasnt smart enough to realize that as a new player, that I was going to lose a game with someone I didnt know, by joining a game with two players that had higher ranks I was doomed to lose anyways because my deductive skills would obviously be lacking.

The ranks were right there, the situation obvious so there was no fraud, deception, or falsity... any more than there is, if three cooks that know how to play start a trips game, and actually know how to play....if I join with blitz and sky T, expecting an easy win... shame on us because when we join a game like that, we should expect all players to play well... it seems youre the one having a tough time with the english language...

you quoted the definition, but dont show in any way how there is deception going on... simply because there isnt...

you want to call it hustling go for it.. want to call it wrong, all you.. but if you call it a scam, Its simply the wrong word...

Im glad they changed the system too... I agree its more fair this way. I agree that it makes the scores more realistic... ive said this all along... the only thing im pointing out, is that there was no scam.. .which after you posted your definition.. you kind of proved for me... thanks....

I consider it a scam because the way the game is set up misleads a new player. As a new recruit I didn't expect for people to actually go out of their way to set up public games. I knew that would take planning and require each of them to be online at the same time. Plus the private games looked more appropriate for setting up these kind of games.

I guess we just don't see eye to eye on this one. I think it's a scam because it's putting a private game and setting it up in a public setting.

I agree that scam probably isn't the best word to use. My whole arguement is that new players join under false pretenses.

preĀ·tense (prē'těns', prĭ-těns') Pronunciation Key
n.
The act of pretending; a false appearance or action intended to deceive.

Basically it comes down to how you view these types of games where question marks were being preyed upon.

When you make a public game and manipulate it so you can choose who is on your team that is called setting up a private game in public. That is my point. If you wanted to choose who is on your team you have the option for private games.

If you don't see anything wrong with having an organized team vrs. a random team then you obviously wont see my point.

i know I think the arguement is one of semantics... I understand why you dont like it... but its clear you cant define it as a scam....

there is absolutely no deception involved.... the rank of the player is there.... if you just join, and join a high rank...you should expect to lose.... and, since teammates like to play together... theyre only option was to set up games together for people to join...

the fact that question marks joined was a side effect... better teams had every opportunity to join.

Im not arguing that setting up games and killing brand new players, was as competitive as it is now... because many did deadbeat.. but since there was no deception, there was no scam... i joined GS for a while too... when i joined team games against high ranked players... was I scammed??? of course not... i knew they were experienced, and would play as a team... its obvious

if i join a new game tomorrow and play the highest ranked players... i expect to lose... I wont be scammed... ill see how they play, and get better...

if they pretend they never played before and pretend to be a different rank than they are, thats different.. ive been decieved.. but since every player carries their rank, and cant label the game..."easy points... join here now" there is no deception, misleading or otherwise"... its an insult to new players that they arent intuitive enough that they will probably lose if they join against established players... they obviously expected to lose, but took the risk to give it a try... they chose to take the risk, and the risk was more than obvious... ie, they werent scammed

it is semantics though..... but the devils in the details
