Epoch: A Map To End All Maps, Page 1+3, NEED CLAN MEMBERS

"Epoch is not just a map, it's a project of gargantuan size." -mibi

What Conquer Club lacks is some epic type maps. World 2.1 is the best map for an epic game but it's rather pedestrian, boring. Other maps have had epic aspirations, but lack luster execution. I want to do something epic, but not just large in size... I want it rich in context.

enter, Epoch

It is Nine chapters long. One chapter for every map. Nine maps, that when complete all fit together to form a huge master map. A map to end all maps.

it works like this...

The Map.

The master map is split up into nine sections. Six of the nine comprise the actual master land. Three of the nine comprise three cities, towns, castles etc, each the size of the regular maps. A territory will have a 'castle' in it that corresponds to one of the castle maps. So the three towns/castles will actually be inside the other territories. Similar to the Baghdad break out box in on the Iraq map.

Currently Conquer Club does not allow maps that are 2,400 x 2,400 pixels but by the time the master map is complete, the rules may have changes, and if not, we will change them.

Image

The Maps.

Each section of the master map will be its own map available for play on Conquer Club. They will progress through the foundry at their own pace and at different times. They will all offer a epic game and each will have different characteristics and gameplay. The legend, not depicted in the picture will be on the outermost side, so as not to affect the realignment with the master map.

The graphics will be similar to my Troy map, whose graphics I loved but wasn't able to get the map in play.

Image

The Story.

Each map is a chapter in the story. The story, most likely sci-fi/fantasy, will be written by anyone or multiple people who choose to lend their writing skills to the project. The actual map will be based around the story. Places familiar, the world will be malleable to the writers words and imagination.

The Project.

A project of this size, nine maps and nine chapters is too overwhelming for one cartographer. So I will enlist a team of as many people possible to want to be directly involved in the creation. I will take the back seat to the planners who have read more Tolkien than me, speak fluent Elvish, or who are just fantasy enthusiasts. I will often advice and a few guidlines to make sure the gameplay is in line with the vision and I will also do the graphic work. I also reserve final cut, but I would like this to be as much a community project as possible. There is much to do, a whole world has to be created, from scratch.

Not just one map, a whole world. People, places, kingdoms. This project will take a long time for sure, but all good this do and this is no exception.

The Map (for real)

I will be creating all files in 300 dpi. Thats print quality. Upon completion the master map will be available as a real life 30''x30'' hard copy. Get out your Risk pieces and settle in for a long week of non-stop epic gameplay.

So thats Epoch.

Now whose with me?

**nerdgasm**

I very much look forward to this. I always really liked the troy map (and thought that it could've been worked out without the top gods-and-heroes layers), so to see that style make a triumphant return is good news indeed.

I doubt there is anything i can do to help. But i will be along to complain about the most annoying details, so be prepared.

Also if this is going to get printed out you will not want any army circles also, you dont really need territory names. (they are helpful and fun in real life but not necessary).
Out of interest will you be printing out instruction and cards ect?

As far as i can work out, at least one of the side ones is not legend. To me it looks like a more detailed map of the castle...

Sorry - that was a bit mean...

But Mibi is one of the greats at GFX here... I suspect he may be OK for help in that arena...

What he will need is support and critique...

this sounds like an awesome project that I am happy to support in any way I can (i'm good at making cups of tea)
Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.
