Before you look at my image for a map I want to explain something to you. I dont plan on making this map myself. I am putting out the game play idea if anyone likes the potentional I will gladly give them permission to use it. I know that it is done on ms paint but that is because Im not working on graphics I just want to get all the gamplay issues out of the way and will give it to someone that is much better with graphics.

Image

okay so this is how it will work. The line above where it says start will be the start and finish line. The first few spots to the left will be the only ones not neutral. The last 3 spots on the edge before the finish line will be objective territorys. If you own all three for a few turns then you win. the start line is impassable. other than that you can attack any territorys that you touch. I havnt yet decided weather or not to have continent bonuses. I will create a poll for that. So what do you think. As I said please dont say anything about the graphics just gameplay. so...comments?

I see potential in this idea. Despite the circular shape of this example, I see some key points that differentiate it from Circus Maximus. A) No limitations on direction of attack. B) Fixed end-point with win conditions. The example could have been a straight line and been topographically equivalent (i.e. it looks like a circle but the ends don't connect).

For the setting, how about a road rally? That gives opportunities for some rough-looking combat terrain. Maybe some short-cuts, narrow passes, bad terrain with territory penalties...

Sounds like fun to me!

OK, naysayers - I'm willing to be convinced. What are your reasons for rejecting this concept? If the concern is that this is a rehash of Circus Maximus, please address the points I made previously:

The only similarities to CM that I see are that this illustration of concept appears circular, but it is not a ring like CM - and the illustration shows lanes, but the lack of movement restriction makes this similarity superficial.

Essentially, dominationnation is suggesting a map where everyone starts at one end and fights to reach the victory conditions at the other.

Seeing as how neutral starting territories and victory conditions are both new, I don't see how this idea could be similar to any of the current maps. Maybe I missed something under development, but I've read through all of the threads listed in the Developmental Atlas (yes, I had some time to kill) and I don't recall seeing anything quite like this under Current or Suspended Development.

The way I understand it is, the majority of the map will be made up of neutral territories. Not something that would inspire any interest on my part.

be my guest. It seems to have been shot own but maybe you can change it around a little to make them a little happier. Of course you will have to wok on the graphics an any loop holes in the gameplay. after posting this I realize that if everyone starts with one territory next to each other you can knock someone out in one turn. Perhaps you coul change it so that it is staggered starting places? You can try it if you like

but if you o that then it restricts game play and it all depends on dice. There is no skill in it at all.Perhaps at first you cant but after the first few blocks then you can?

I was thinking that if you make the starting territories attack-from-only (so they can't be attacked from other territories) then you would force people to win via victory conditions - it would be impossible to eliminate any player.

or how about an Aiel Waste map? You could have each group be a country (Goshien, Shaido...). That could be a fun map if it was made right.

that could be interesting, not sure there would be anything to make it stand out, but it could be a quality map

True. But on this map everyone starts together at one end and is supposed to race (fight through neutrals) to the other end.

But if it is possible to eliminate players, then sometimes (often?) there will be a big fight at the starting line to eliminate people before they progress. If you must make it to the finish to win, then you have to choose how much effort to put into stopping your opponent and how much into making progress.

The problem with this idea as I see it is that its based on the luck of the dice.

I don't understand how the tactical side of this game would be different than, 'there are a hundred armies between you and the finish line, go get at 'em, boy.'

I'm sorry but this doesn't appeal to me right now.
