This is a really awesome idea. You should put the legend under Europe since there would be no other use for the space there. What are the six colonies and where are their landing sites? I count UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Holland, and one native american colony

Great idea!!!

It sounds great.

Also if the XML can work, maybe only allow to deploy armies on the european countries.

I'm going to try to be historically accurate without compromising game play. So I'm still kind of researching and sketching at the moment. Like I said in the topic title, very early development.

I was planning on two native groups so every game isn't exactly the same while still preserving everyone only starts with one territory (except for 3 player).

Right now as far as natives go I'm either going with Iroquois and Aztecs/Maya or Lakota and Maya. I wanted Aztecs and Lakota but they start way too close together if I don't want to flip history the bird.

Great idea.. I think it'll work.. I was thinking the same thing yesterday.. I stumbled upon my previous attempt at a "New World" map and read some suggestions(essentially suggesting something along these lines (i.e. small inclusion of europe)) and got to the same point as it seems you have as far as how the map would go.. Anyway, good luck.

I'm not too clear on this. Were the Inca still around when the European nations started colonizing? Inca's birthplace is in the south western part of South America and would be more ideal then the Aztecs or the Maya as far as starting location for a native tribe.

I would really love to just have them all in and be able to say something in code like (of these 9 territories make a random 3 neutral) but I don't remember if lack was going to code that in or not.

Oh, and I promise I'm better then this, but since someone asked for a general idea of where people start this took 10 seconds:

Francisco Pizarro conquered the Incas, using their own extensive network of roads against them. That's all I remember from 6th grade Social Studies.

WidowMakers and I are already in correspondence via PM over him possibly taking over for the art after I get a good sketch done. I may very well do what you are suggesting.

Fine with me. I don't want anyone to feel I am taking over your maps Coleman. :D

Give it a shot. Let see what you can do.

I think the idea is great and could definitely have some interesting game play.

QUENCH! I kid this looks like a really good idea and I look forward to seeing how this map develops, especially if a strong bonus system is produced. It could almost be like games like civilisation where you have to build up resources in order to collaberate greater bonuses

I like that idea. It's something different. Hooray for new XML features!

Y'know, I've seen some map ideas that start with several neutral territs and the goal is to conquer them. Maybe one day they could be considered a different mode of play, like, "Conquest".

Things will be clearer when I get my decent sketch done. Which will hopefully be by sometime later tonight.

Update: I completely suck at drawing. It's extreme sadness. Tonight isn't looking very likely now. I can't decide on a layout and for some reason I can't make the territories big enough even when I only have 25 or so.

I think I'm going with an earlier suggestion to cut out most of the frigid north and the southern area of South America.

This allows me to make the map wider instead of taller, which Andy tends to favor, and to focus on the more important areas of the colonial period.
